The first four cars from SAMC headed north to Steamboat Spring Colorado on Tuesday June 14th. Dave & Gloria Carroll, Chuck & Darlene Mahoney, Ed Clark, and Joe Gianninoto met at the Cracker Barrel at I10 & Cortaro for breakfast before their trip. Since Dave & Gloria's 2003 Mach 1 was in Show Low we went through Globe to pickup their car. Lunch at Dave & Gloria's second home in Show Low was a treat, a few gallons of gas and on to St. Johns, then north to I-40, East to Gallup New Mexico, then north through Shiprock to Cortez Colorado for the night. Looking forward to a nice "dry" drive through the Rockies tomorrow. More tomorrow. -Chuck Mahoney

We left our temporary home at the Comfort Inn in Cortez Colorado heading east to Durango , then north. We caught a glimpse of the Durango to Silverton Narrow gauge train smoking at the station. Day two was mountains and more mountains. We went over Red Mountain Pass at 11,008 feet at the summit, and down into Silverton for a pit stop. There is lots of snow in the high country and we saw more waterfalls than we could count. After the pass we went through Ouray, an old mining town that looks like a lot of fun now. On through Montrose to Delta for lunch and gas. From Delta we went slightly east then north again up the side of Grand Mesa where we saw an almost frozen over lake. There was some snow close so some snowballs were thrown. Down off the mesa and a short cut to I-70, then east to Rifle. Although we had encountered some road maintenance so far we ran into no road at all north of Rifle. Five miles of rough, dusty gravel road. It seemed like it would never end, and two way traffic. At Meeker we stop for rest and some drink and to insure there was no more road construction. It was all clear to Craig, then east to Steamboat. Another 9 ½ hour day on the road. All in all a beautiful drive except for 5 miles of bad road. And we got to push a Chevy pickup in Delta. More tomorrow. -Chuck Mahoney

On Thursday we had some well deserved rest and cleaned up the filthy cars before Registration started at 11am . Everyone (almost) was tired of driving and riding so they took the shuttle to downtown Steamboat for lunch at Bruan's Pub and grill and saw Grace & Bernie Burl arrive in Steamboat. Chuck went on the Mountain Tour and poker run. Although he had 3 Aces, he only won 8 th place in the late model class. The biggest news of the day was that Ed Clark became a grandfather for the second time. See the picture of baby and mom. We met in the early evening after Steve & Sheryl Felde arrived and had a great Mexican dinner in Steamboat, and we walked through the downtown area.
Friday was the Autocross. The organizers had a challenging course set up in the parking lot of tennis club. Chuck and Darlene Mahoney both took their turns driving as did Steve Felde in his 1993 Cobra. It was great fun watching a Cobra Daytona, a Ford GT , and a new 2005 GT run the course along with around 200 other cars. -Chuck Mahoney

Saturday was the car show in downtown Steamboat Springs. The cars were staged in the parking lot where the autocross was held on Friday. It was very well organized and each class drove to downtown together. There were so many neat Mustangs you just can't believe it. You will have to see the video at the meeting in August, or check out the RMMR web site.
Sunday morning was the breakfast and awards, also very well organized. Bernie & Grace Burl's and Joe Gianninoto cars won an award, and Ed Clark and Sheryl Felde won clocks.
The best award was the long distance club award won by our club for traveling the farthest one was distance to the show. SAMC had slightly over 5200 miles with 6 cars.
We all arrived home safely on Monday afternoon.
